OUR MISSION
The Cultural Literacy Center teaches people to read the world. Through cultural and digital media literacy education, we strengthen the capacities that reading the world requires — observing, listening, reflecting, and conveying meaning across difference — so that a person can travel into worlds not their own without causing harm. We work alongside those the digital age has left outside its conversations, because when a person frees their voice, the community around them grows stronger.

Communicators with Heart
We take communication seriously as a form of care. Attention is a skill. Listening is a skill. So is sensing what a room needs, noticing what has gone unsaid, and saying a hard thing without wounding.
Our programs teach those skills, and we build them around the people in front of us rather than off a shelf. They span the full register of how people actually communicate — body language, speech, situational awareness, and attention, alongside written and digital media.
The Cultural Literacy Center welcomes everyone. We hold a structural commitment to gender-affirming, diplomatic, race-conscious communication across humanity's spectrum. Cultural literacy, as we practice it, attunes the senses, opens relationships, and holds steady across difference — and it is how we grow the worlds we want to see.

Cultural Literacy Program
The Cultural Literacy Program empowers organizations to build racially diverse, culturally inclusive, and socially equitable environments. Rooted in critical pedagogy and cross-cultural understanding, this program provides tools and strategies to enhance organizational communication and cultural competency. EmpowerED: Mind-Body-Spirit Youth Initiative
EmpowerEd is a holistic program designed to empower youth ages 5–25 through a combination of academic support, life-skills development, and wellness-focused services. From tutoring in critical subjects like reading, writing, and mathematics to leadership training, mental health resources, and community engagement opportunities, EmpowerEd equips participants with the tools they need to succeed in school, work, and life.

Digital Bridges
Digital Bridges empowers older adults with the digital skills needed to navigate today’s technology-driven world. Participants gain hands-on experience, from setting up devices to mastering advanced functions, while learning to find, evaluate, and communicate credible information online. Our program equips learners with the confidence and skills needed to access and create digital content effectively, helping them thrive in today’s tech-connected society.
